About Aruba

We are often asked: "When is the best weather in Aruba?" In general, the weather in Aruba is warm and sunny all year round. The average temperature is 82° Fahrenheit (27° Celsius) and the average rainfall is less than 20 inches per year. Like any good getaway location, it’s always warm and dry here. If you’re spending time near the coast, a nice breeze from the Atlantic Ocean will cool you off while you are enjoying the sunshine.

Flora & Fauna

For a small island, Aruba has a rich and diverse population of flora and fauna. Aruba is home to more than 200 bird species and we have significant population of breeding seabirds, particularly terns. Hundreds of these birds can be found at the coastal islands at San Nicolas. Some examples of wildlife unique to Aruba include the Aruban whiptail lizard, Aruba rattlesnake (which you see on our 25 florin note), and burrowing owl (on the 50 florin note).

Since Aruba has a dry climate, we don’t have the tropical vegetation common on other isles. The rural areas of the island, what natives call the “kunuku,” are home to various forms of cacti, thorny shrubs, and local trees like the Kwih, Divi Divi and Fofoti. Aloe Vera plants are also very common – in fact, Aloe Vera is featured on Aruba’s coat of arms, since it was one of the islands first important exports.

A guided tour through Aruba’s National Park, Arikok, is a great way to see and learn about Aruba’s flora and fauna. Philip’s Animal Garden, a shelter and rehabilitation center for exotic animals, is also a great place to see Aruba’s wildlife up close.

Snorkeling & Diving

Although Aruba doesn't have a marine park, the island has many dive sites and good snorkeling locations. Divers have more than twenty locations to choose from, including boat and plane wrecks, reefs, and other sites for spotting underwater life. Snorkelers can jump into the water and start exploring, or go with a guided snorkel sailing trip. Snorkel and diving trips can be booked at our Concierge Desk. We also rent out bicycles and snorkel equipment.

Culture & Traditions

Our population of about 105,00 inhabitants is made up of a broad international mixture of well educated people with a pleasant nature and a zest of hospitality. The modern Aruban is generally of mixed ancestry, claiming Caquetio Indian, African and European roots. Aruba’s strong economy, excellent living conditions and prime weather continue to attract individuals from all over the world. Today, the island claims more than 90 different nationalities, who live and work peacefully on the island.
